Technology at Peabody

Technology has become an important part of our lives.  How did we ever get along without telephones, television, computers?  How did we shop before the internet?  Okay, we are being a bit over dramatic here!  Peabody Retirement Community employs some of the most powerful technology available to benefit our residents.  Below we list some of the technological advances used in our community.  Please refer to your admissions paperwork or the pages of this website related to a particular level of residence to determine which technology services are included and which may require an additional fee.

Wireless Staff Call System - Throughout the planning phase of the new buildings, we knew we wanted to make getting help from staff to be an almost effortless task.  To meet this end, we installed a wireless staff call system.  Each resident is given a wireless transmitter -- worn on a necklace, as a bracelet or carried in a pocket -- which instantly notifies a staff member with the press of a button when assistance is needed.  This allows the resident to move freely about the campus without fear of being unable to summons help in an emergency.

Single Wire Connectivity - The newest buildings are equipped with a single "bundled" low-voltage wiring system that delivers cable television programming, internet browsing, local and long distance telephone, and video conferencing services.  The entire system is constantly monitored to ensure service is not compromised.

Basic Cable Television Programming - Seven local cable channels, including the national networks (ABC, CBS, NBC) along with the Peabody channel keep you informed of local and national news, weather and more.  An enhanced cable television programming package is also available to residents for an additional charge.

Local and Long Distance Telephone - When desired, a private telephone line with its own unique number can be installed in campus residences. Because new technology allows Peabody to be its own telephone "exchange" you do not have the hassles of writing checks to the local phone company.  All charges are itemized and included on your monthly Peabody statement.

Internet Connection - For those interested in browsing cyberspace from the comfort of their own residence, Peabody now offers high speed internet connections in almost every dwelling on campus.  Residents are required to provide their own computer and cables to connect to the system.

Video Conferencing - A very exciting addition to our technology services, soon to be available for use, is  video conferencing.  For friends and family who use internet-based cameras (web-cams), you will have the opportunity for a "face to face" meeting with your loved one living at Peabody.  This technology enables the resident and family members to talk and see each other at the same time.

Electrical Backup - Peabody has invested substantial resources to ensure that during times of severe weather and commercial power system failures that key energy needs are maintained without interruption.  We have located within our power plant facilities the largest non-industrial generator in Wabash County.  Rest assured, wherever constant power is needed, we have it covered.  Durable medical devices, key communications equipment and other vital components are connected to the system through special outlets located throughout the campus and in most resident rooms.

Card Key Security - All entrances and exits throughout the newly constructed buildings are controlled by electronic locks.  Doors can be unlocked by waving a card key (similar to a credit card) within a few inches of an electronic card reader located next to all entrances.  The door locks itself again automatically when it is closed.
