Setting the Standard for Excellent Christian Care

ABOUT GIVING

For over seven decades, individuals, churches, and businesses have given of their time, talent and treasure to support the Peabody legacy of service to our seniors. We are grateful to the thousands who have come before us as committed financial supporters, volunteers, and dedicated staff. It is because of these special people that Peabody continues to demonstrate our uncompromising respect of the dignity and worth of each individual. You have a wonderful opportunity to carry on the tradition of generosity and "making a difference" to the residents of Peabody Retirement Community. See a list of the current Peabody ministries receiving support from the Foundation at the bottom of this page.

OUTRIGHT GIFTS

Cash - The simplest, most direct, and most popular way to support the Peabody Home Foundation. Gifts to Peabody are tax deductible, as allowed by law. Therefore, because of the tax savings, your actual cost of the gift is much lower than the actual amount of your gift. Giving cash using your credit card will soon be even easier through our secure Gift Store.

Securities and Real Estate - Gifts of appreciated property, such as stocks or real estate, are popular alternatives to cash gifts. These can provide even greater tax benefits to the donor, especially when the appreciated property has been held long-term and has capital gains associated with the investment.

Tangible Personal Property - If you have works of art, an automobile, rare books, coin or stamp collections, you may be able to make a gift of these and be entitled to a charitable deduction.

LIFE INCOME GIFT PLANS

A Life Income Gift Plan allows you to make a substantial gift to the Peabody Home Foundation while still providing for your personal financial needs. Life income gift plans provide a stream of income for life for one or more beneficiaries, with an ultimate gift to Peabody. These plans offer significant tax benefits and may also increase the cash flow to the donor and / or the beneficiary.

Charitable Gift Annuities - For a life income gift plan, the charitable gift annuity is the simplest and most popular tool currently available. In exchange for a transfer of cash, marketable securities, or in some instances, real state, Peabody guarantees a fixed annuity payment to you and / or another beneficiary for the rest of your life(s). A portion of the guaranteed payments is tax-free and a charitable deduction is available for the gift value of the property transferred.

Charitable Remainder Trusts - CRTs, as they are known, are popular for donors needing financial and estate planning flexibility. The CRT is similar to other types of trusts, except that Peabody can receive the remainder interest of the trust. A trust created during life takes advantage of income, capital gains, and estate-tax savings. A trust that becomes effective at the end of a donor's life is especially useful for accepting life insurance proceeds or retirement fund assets. You will need to consult your attorney to draft and establish a trust.

DEFERRED GIFTS

Gifts by will, or bequests, allow friends of the Peabody Home Foundation to give in ways they may not have been able to during their lifetime. Bequests can take various forms.

Undesignated Bequest - This type of bequest allows the funds to be used wherever they are needed most at the time they are received. Because needs change and Peabody must respond, an undesignated bequest provides us the greatest flexibility to respond where contributions are needed when the bequest is received.

Designated or Restricted Bequest - This allows the donor to choose, or restrict, how their bequest will be used once Peabody receives it. For example, the donor may bequest a specific dollar amount or a percentage of their estate. A designated bequest allows the donor to specify that their gift go to certain use such as Benevolent care, Residential Programming, Endowment, or Capital Improvement.

Residuary Bequest - This form of bequest provides that Peabody will receive all or part of the donor's estate after all other obligations have been satisfied. A remainder portion of your estate comes to our ministry, allowing us to continue our tradition of serving older adults who so very much deserve our care and respect.

CURRENT MINISTRIES SUPPORTED BY THE FOUNDATION

There is always a need for the financial support that allows Peabody to continue "celebrating the ageless spirit" by focusing on health, not frailty; on possibilities not limitations and the value of life at all ages. Each day, nearly 300 older adults depend on us to provide warm Christian care and an enhanced quality of life. Gifts given to the Peabody Home Foundation allow our staff to keep this promise to all of our residents. Financial support is appreciated, and very much needed, for the following purposes:

Caring Circle - Benevolent care fund that provides financial assistance to residents whose funds have become exhausted. Peabody's benevolent care program supported almost 100 residents last year, providing more than one million dollars. This is money for which our organization will never be reimbursed, and gifts to the Caring Circle help offset these costs.

Program Support - Innovative programming, designed to enhance the residents' quality of life, is supported through contributions. Although there are too many programs to list here, some highlights include chaplaincy guidance; intergenerational programs with children from Peabody's onsite childcare center, Blessed Beginnings; and campus-wide entertainment such as the annual Wine and Cheese Tasting, Mardi Gras Ball, Spring Fling, and the Halloween Costume Ball, just to name a few.

Endowment - Gifts to endowment are invested in perpetuity. The earnings generated by the original gift provide on-going support for the Caring Circle or other programs designated by the donor. The amount of the original gift will remain constant.  A unique opportunity exists to honor or memorialize a loved one through establishing a named endowment.

Capital Projects - The need for more extensive facilities and services increases as the American population grows. In addition to the new buildings opened in 2004, our Community has renovation needs in the original structures (South House ,Chapel, Craig House, etc.) as well. We would also like to upgrade the resident computer stations; update interior decor; and so much more. The demand for capital projects is significant. The Peabody Home Foundation helps meet Peabody's ongoing capital needs through capital campaigns in support of specific projects and programs.
