"Three New Living Environments" Phase-1 of the expansion program called for the creation of three new living environments -- health care, memory enhancement, and assisted living. The four new buildings are connected to each other and remaining buildings through hallways beautifully decorated with with artwork and antiques. Health Care Center One of the primary design objectives utilized for the new Thomas A. Peabody Center for Living and Rehabilitation was to maintain both residential scale and character, thereby creating a more homelike environment. In order to accomplish this objective, a cluster design concept was utilized, This design eliminates long hallways and minimizes the distance between residents and caregivers, allowing more time for personal interaction with residents. The cluster design also creates shorter distances to various amenities, which encourages residents to be more independent in accessing services, rather than reinforcing dependence on staff. The new buildings will enable professional caregivers to complete their tasks more efficiently, and thereby spend more time with individual residents. The large size of the dwelling enables each resident to create their own personal space, while allowing room for small gatherings of family and friends. Public areas and meeting rooms are available for larger groups. Assistance is always available; however, the dwellings are designed to encourage individuals to be as independent as possible, including personal hygiene needs. The cluster design also positions caregivers closer to the residents, substantially increasing their responsiveness and involvement in the lives of residents and their care.
